Your Majesty 03:58
A huddled mass under a cross Arms at his side bent at the knees Seek out a pulse, recon, retreat Do not interact, do not relieve There’s something here, it’s overgrown Don’t say you can’t feel The great stillborn air, just look around As all the lights have blackened out Buildings spill out into the streets Deep in a well the children sleep The insects, they swarm around the weak We are servants to a fatal flaw Descend, descend There’s nothing here, seeds left unsown Don’t say you can’t feel The great stillborn air Are we merely here to bear witness to the fall? Your majesty has gone Your majesty has gone
2.
Keep the doors closed windows boarded up Soon they will arrive Play her favorite games by candlelight Keep her occupied They’ll come for us tonight Burrow in the makeshift caves she loves Toys lay at her side Can you read that story once again Right up to the end? What will come if they do not return and the beasts tear at the walls Down the depths we’ll slip out through the cracks Eyes locked on the path We’ll come for them tonight Under the gaze of satellites Who’ll come for us tonight?
3.
Now you take the lead it’s all yours Show your best step Hair tossed back dress wound tight It’s all yours tonight Soaked in pure black sea we bleed light like wine-drunk fireflies Scuffmarks on the floor in circles You always wanted more There can you see that bridge is so far Your hands slip through mine to ruin all I have left Heiress to the storm you drift off and live only in my mind There can you see that bridge is so far
4.
Non Nocere 03:38
Sallow faces are drawn yet you want to go on Bodies seeping blood yet you want to go on There’s nothing more to be done yet you want to go on The pressing weight of vows, little to no meaning now No more meds, fluids gone, close your eyes and move on Let go Free me from your pain, this dark and sickly cage Into the open grave, shadows to be saved Still you haunt me from your beds Bitter voices in my head
5.
The Measures 04:58
Wake up and pack, the engine’s on You take the moon, I’ll grab the sun Avoid the shadows until the dawn Aside from us there can be no one I’ve got this saving grace wrapped up inside this box Where cardboard people sit and wind their little clocks When money burns and empires fall Through the streets the blind silhouettes crawl They make a move, we’ll take them down Burn the bridges, lay ashes to the ground I’ve got this saving grace wrapped up inside this box Where cardboard people sit and wind their little clocks Get out and walk, the engine’s off In the guiding light, keep heading south Float on debris don’t make a sound I hear them coming There is no saving grace wrapped up inside this box Just a parting gift for each of us I’m sorry, we have lost Just tilt your heads back Take it all in
6.
Beacon 04:18
Out there somewhere a live beacon hides Buried in sty Shining through ash and debris The hollowed people don’t believe Don’t tell me I’m wrong Out here nowhere a plague ruled by fire Burst from the mire Orange clouds shield out the sun The blackened dust seeps in your lungs Till the last one falls to a cold blank stare The engine must rumble on tracks of disrepair Keeper of beacon light you are Envoy of poisoned minds you are
7.
Here we come undone We will be changed just like you said Loved ones laid to ground Gone is the place where I used to turn to Behold hades blaze Soak up the joy The time has arrived for only the few The fortunate few When will trumpets blare to signal the end as you have devised? Or have we been misled A lifetime bought in only to be sold out Lies, all lies You fed me lies, masterful lies All fattened up with lies, all lies No one to save us now
8.
Bled Dry 04:17
No more second guess, no tied up to the pole, hovering The ladder sits in waiting, no more shall I climb Leave me down here Forked-tongue acrobatics, spewing from the tubes No, no, only silence The birthright paints a landscape Remains stacked to the sky Never will I wonder when the waters will run dry Bled dry Don’t fight No wisdom for the leeches or bargain afternoons No, no, this is solace None fittest for the bloodline or point to classify Leave me down here for the hours to decide Bled dry This retrograde will happen Don’t fight
9.
Your bastion thrives deep in the trees You won’t see me come but arms will open wide Look at my scars, sob-story, bleeding hearts Such easy prey Rosy cheeks get kissed goodnight I’ll wait, I’ll wait Trust a fickle captor outright You won’t see me gone Stripped of all you have Slumber is defeat The watchmen never speak The watchmen never speak Curse this circumstance Revenge is what you seek Now you’ll understand If not I, then someone else

about

“Heirs to the Storm”, Greg Reynaud’s second full-length album as “Midway In Wake” is a concept album that ten different narratives in the days following a catastrophic event.

The amount of time and effort spent penning lyrics from ten different vantage points was only equalled by the time spent writing, performing and recording all of the different parts in each song, which range from hand sequenced drum beats and oddly, looped atmospherics to shimmering, intertwining guitar parts and melodic bass lines.

While Reynaud’s first full-length album ‘We Will Remain Sedate’ relied heavily on acoustic guitar, ‘Heirs To The Storm’ is more experimental and adventurous than its its lo-fi predecessor.

Fans of Bon Iver’s ‘22, A Million’ and Grizzly Bear’s “Yellow House” will find familiar themes and tones in songs such as “Beacon” and “Your Majesty” while songs like “They’ll Come For Us” and “Non Nocere” may remind listeners of Radiohead’s ‘In Rainbows’ and The National’s ‘High Violet’.

While the songs do share a common theme and overall mood, each represents a different aspect of the human condition, such as love, loss, greed, revenge, desolation, etc.
